1.【址:a g 9 559⒐ v i p】1 "That's true. Now, will you make me a report of all that has happened?""Why, I have related the events to you. You have a good memory; repeatwhat I have told you. A paper may be lost."
2. Instead of returning directly home, D'Artagnan alighted at thedoor of M. de Treville, and ran quickly up the stairs. This timehe had decided to relate all that had passed. M. de Trevillewould doubtless give him good advice as to the whole affair.Besides, as M. de Treville saw the queen almost daily, he mightbe able to draw from her Majesty some intelligence of the pooryoung woman, whom they were doubtless making pay very dearly forher devotedness to her mistress.
3. "Then run to the door, and open it yourself."
4. "Monsieur the Cardinal!" cried the stupefied Musketeer."Your name?" cried his Eminence, for the third time."Athos," said the Musketeer.
5. "I do not jest," said Athos.
6. "You believed me to be dead, did you not, as I believed youto be? And the name of Athos as well concealed the Comte dela Fere, as the name Milady Clarik concealed Anne de Breuil. Was it not so you were called when your honored brothermarried us? Our position is truly a strange one," continuedAthos, laughing. "We have only lived up to the present timebecause we believed each other dead, and because aremembrance is less oppressive than a living creature, though a remembrance is sometimes devouring."

1. D'Artagnan turned in the direction pointed to by Athos, andperceived Aramis.
2. "The devil! Why, people jest with death."
3. Lord de Winter rose, saluted her ironically, and went out.Milady breathed again. She had still four days before her. Fourdays would quite suffice to complete the seduction of Felton.A terrible idea, however, rushed into her mind. She thought thatLord de Winter would perhaps send Felton himself to get the ordersigned by the Duke of Buckingham. In that case Felton wouldescape her--for in order to secure success, the magic of acontinuous seduction was necessary. Nevertheless, as we havesaid, one circumstance reassured her. Felton had not spoken. As she would not appear to be agitated by the threats of Lord deWinter, she placed herself at the table and ate.
4. "Himself."
5. "Whichever of the three you like, I have no preference.""And the rich caparison, is that mine, too?"
6. "He who just now presented himself to the abbess as a messenger from thecardinal."

1. The king trembled with joy and the cardinal with vexation;although, distant as they were from the queen, they could notcount the studs. The queen had them. The only question was, hadshe ten or twelve?
2. He passed along the same corridor as before, crossed one court, then a second side of a building; at length, at the gate of theentrance court he found a carriage surrounded by four guards onhorseback. They made him enter this carriage, the officer placedhimself by his side, the door was locked, and they were left in arolling prison. The carriage was put in motion as slowly as afuneral car. Through the closely fastened windows the prisonercould perceive the houses and the pavement, that was all; but, true Parisian as he was, Bonacieux could recognize every streetby the milestones, the signs, and the lamps. At the moment ofarriving at St. Paul--the spot where such as were condemned atthe Bastille were executed--he was near fainting and crossedhimself twice. He thought the carriage was about to stop there. The carriage, however, passed on.
3. "There is but one way."
4. "Great God!" cried D'Artagnan, loosing his hold of herdress, and remaining mute, motionless, and frozen. But Milady felt herself denounced even by his terror. Hehad doubtless seen all. The young man now knew her secret, her terrible secret--the secret she concealed even from hermaid with such care, the secret of which all the world wasignorant, except himself.
5. "Listen," said he to him. "When you have given the letterto Lord de Winter and he has read it, you will further sayto him: Watch over his Grace Lord Buckingham, for they wishto assassinate him. But this, Planchet, is so serious andimportant that I have not informed my friends that I wouldentrust this secret to you; and for a captain's commission Iwould not write it."
6. "I love your devotedness," said Milady.

1. "I must go thither tonight?"
2. "Alas, monseigneur!" replied the young man, "very easily, nodoubt, for they are strong and well supported, while I amalone."
3. D'Artagnan went out first, as had been agreed upon. Then, inorder that he might have nothing to reproach himself with, hedirected his steps, for the last time, toward the residences ofhis three friends. No news had been received of them; only aletter, all perfumed and of an elegant writing in smallcharacters, had come for Aramis. D'Artagnan took charge of it.Ten minutes afterward Planchet joined him at the stables of theHotel des Gardes. D'Artagnan, in order that there might be notime lost, had saddled his horse himself.
4、 "You are all mistaken, gentlemen," answered Athos, gravely; "youare eating horse."
5、 "Swear."

"Oh, my God!" said Mme. Bonacieux, what is that noise?""That of either our friends or our enemies," said Milady, with herterrible coolness. "Stay where you are, I will tell you."Mme. Bonacieux remained standing, mute, motionless, and pale as astatue.
