Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, wrote in an opinion published by The Washington Post that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered a blistering speech about China.
"China-U.S. cooperation has never been a case of one party giving favor to the other, or one party taking advantage of the other. Both countries have benefited much from this cooperation," he stressed
Calling Pompeo's rhetoric as "full of ideological bias and Cold War ideas," the embassy said Pompeo is attacking China without any substantiation.
During his visit, Pompeo repeated his anti-China agenda while talking about cooperation with the Czech Republic on 5G security and nuclear power plant construction. He claimed that using technologies from China and Russia would pose a "danger" to the sovereignty and security of the Czech Republic.
Carrion said the U.S. inteference would be "in the end unnecessary and useless because the situation in Hong Kong is up to China to resolve, not the United States."
In May 2019, when Washington lifted tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, Freeland said, "The reality is that this U.S. administration is openly, explicitly, and proudly protectionist," reminding the domestic industry to remain vigilant about the neighboring super power.
Under the current situation, China proposes removing all disturbances to restart as soon as possible the Code of Conduct consultation, and agreeing as early as possible on a set of rules for maintaining long-term peace and stability in the region, Wang said.
"Now we are working on the code of conduct between China and ASEAN countries, and we are making good progress. We always believe that any territorial disputes shall be resolved through negotiations by the parties directly concerned. And we certainly aim to have a diplomatic solution, a negotiated solution. This is our commitment. It's not changing," he said.
As underscored in last week's Political Bureau meeting, China will accelerate the establishment of a "dual circulation" development pattern that takes the domestic market as the mainstay while domestic and foreign markets can boost each other.
